I met the beautiful bride Jessica and it was an instant kindred spirits moment. She and Branden were visionaries, who discussed design in terms of feelings and effect. This left me with the ability to interpret their vision from an idea into a beautiful collaboration.
Jessica and Branden wanted to include black without overwhelming everything and making a gothic garden feel like a graveyard. I utilized white and green florals to keep things feeling like a romantic garden, contrasting beautifully with the black details on the tables and venue. To bring in those darker, black elements we used dark hardwoods, black vessels and candle holders.
To keep the couple the focus of the wedding and allow for a beautiful ocean backdrop, the main floral piece was a weaving, wrapping floor installation that felt as though the couple was standing among their own wildflower field.
The blooming branches used throughout this wedding created a natural, organic feeling. Symbolically, this couple was growing and blooming in a whole new way after marriage.
Jessica did an incredible job expressing her visions and I completely understood it. This wasn’t goth, it was gothic. Jessica’s selection of every detail and texture was intentional and subtle, and I knew the florals needed to match that. Together we achieved a goth inspired design that was subtle, welcome at a beach wedding, and left us all feeling cozy in an elegant, clean and timeless way.
Creating organic, harmonious designs with a limited palette of black, white and green was a welcome challenge. By using shades and tones and luxurious texture I was able to create an emotional experience. When I handed Jess her bridal bouquet, her ear to ear smile melted into tears of overwhelmed emotion. It was an unforgettable moment, an unforgettable wedding, and an absolutely special couple.
